Description
Dawn is a debut handpan album designed to provide a soundtrack for meditation, emotional release, and peace. This collection of handpan music for relaxation was born from years of live performance and clinical improvisation, capturing the transformative power of the RAV Vast B Kurd.
The Story Behind the Music: The Stairwell Project
Between 2019 and 2022, I performed as a musician with The Stairwell Project at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital and St Vincent’s Kangaroo Point. Playing in cancer wards, physio wards, and public stairwells, I witnessed firsthand how music helps staff and patients escape their minds and find a moment of calm. These improvisations eventually evolved into the structured pieces found on this handpan album.
The Recording Process at Studio 4EB
Recorded in a single day in February 2023, Dawn was captured at the iconic Studio 4EB by Niyi Adepoyobi. Having previously recorded projects like Feel the Joy with Menaka Thomas and my composition HISS in the same space, returning to 4EB felt like coming home. The accommodating nature of the studio and the unique acoustic feel of the space allowed for a raw, authentic performance that translates into a deeply resonant listening experience.
A big thanks to Peter Breen and The Stairwell Project for your support of musicians the transformative experiences you’ve brought to many people’s lives.
May this album provide a soundtrack to relaxation, introspection, emotional release and pleasure.
