Description
Festa de Percussao is a celebration of rhythm, designed for a world music drumming ensemble of 10 players. Originally commissioned for Brisbane Grammar School, this piece was born from a desire to create engaging, professional-level repertoire that remains accessible for developing percussionists.
A Fusion of Global Grooves
This composition is a vibrant intersection of traditional styles, drawing heavy inspiration from Samba and West African Djembe drumming. The heart of the piece is a rock-solid, infectious groove that provides the perfect canvas for a series of featured solos. Festa de Percussao showcases your section’s talent with written solos for:
- Timbales
- Congas &Bongos
- Concert toms
- Snare Drum
Perfect for Mixed Ability Percussion Ensembles
Finding repertoire that challenges senior players without leaving beginners behind is a common hurdle. Festa de Percussao solves this by featuring parts scaled in difficulty, making it a great choice for mixed ability percussion ensembles.
This flexibility allows directors to assign the technical solo roles to advanced students while the rest of the ensemble maintains a ripper groove that makes this piece an audience favourite.
Educational & Performance Resources
To support the rehearsal process, a dedicated play-along video is provided. This allows students to internalise the complex rhythms and world-music feels at their own pace, ensuring the ensemble is stage-ready for any festival or concert.
