I went into the studio yesterday with a great friend of mine Lachlan Hawkins and we busted out some mad recordings of HAPI Drum and Congas with some auxilary percussion and vocals added in later.
Locky’s been a great fan of the Hang drum and he’s been really keen to get the real thing. Unfortunately it turns out that the company that makes the real thing has a waiting list of about ten years and a bill that’d leave a hole in your pocket so he found the next best thing!
Before we went in to the studio we rehearsed a bit, tried to figure out some themes and grooves and prepared what we could so the recording would go as
smoothly as possible. We spent around 3 hours recording and the final product was about 5 takes into the recording plus additional overdubs.
The piece itself was improvised with a few set themes and grooves and we were pretty proud of the final product.
There’s still a while until it’s finished but in the meantime… we had a nice radio length take which we really liked so…
Enjoy!
