I decided to finish my graduating recital surrounded by my friends in the QCGU percussion department. Inspired by my chorale for harmonic whirlies, ‘The Angels are Coming’, I wrote a chorale for 12 players. I’ve gone through a fantastic journey surrounded great people and I thought it’d only be fitting to work with my friends from the percussion department to symbolise that journey. This was the last piece of the recital,

Kenmore State High School Performs ‘Etna’
For their end of year concert in 2015, the Kenmore State High School Percussion Ensemble at their annual event 'Kenmore up Late', performed my paint drumming composition 'Etna'! I was invited by their percussion teacher Tania Savage to come and spend time with the group in a photoshoot for the local paper and later on for one rehearsal before the concert.
We spent the morning of the photoshoot clearing out the percussion store room and setting up all of my paint drumming gear. During the

Etna is complete!
The summer holidays are over and my new paint drumming composition is complete.
Named after the volcano 'Mount Etna' (in the spirit of Volcano Rising haha), Etna is a paint drumming quartet with a flair for choreography that is the third video in the synesthetic series of videos.
It was great fun working on this piece! And, as
More ‘Etna’ Paint Drumming Rehearsal Videos
With the coming release of 'Etna', my new paint drumming video, here's another sneaky peek into our rehearsals.
Thanks to my mum, Ronit Baras for filming these three snippets! There's nothing like having a supporting family and I really appreciate her help with this.
This rehearsal was on a VERY HOT day and we were very happy to have been getting sprayed from the drums! It was our first rehearsal with water and pumps so getting around the drums and getting used to the spray was a bit of a
‘Etna’ Paint Drumming Quartet rehearsal video
In preparation for the coming release of another paint drumming video I'm giving a look into the backstage stuff!
When 'Volcano Rising' got requests for paint drumming performances, the corporate venues that had asked for it pondered the option of working only with a quartet instead of 12 drummers. I thought about this and came to the conclusion that, really, a quartet was a very comfortable way of giving a massive performance with the same effect and a 3rd of the setup time!
So, I set

I recently added a new section to the website to sell my compositions and, with the help of my dad Gal Baras (check out his website), I'm really happy with the end product and it's working too!
Not too soon after I finished adding everything I got a message from one of my friend's private students who was looking for a piece to play at his school's percussion soiree. I was really glad that he was

Once again, it's been fantastic working with great artists and people who are generally great at what they do. A massive thank you to Jonathan Brazil, who sat with me so far for about 7 hours to edit the video not to mention filming the entire production over the past 3 weeks. It got to the point that our minds melted so we decided to take a break and
