For their end of year concert in 2015, the Kenmore State High School Percussion Ensemble at their annual event ‘Kenmore up Late’, performed my paint drumming composition ‘Etna’! I was invited by their percussion teacher Tania Savage to come and spend time with the group in a photoshoot for the local paper and later on for one rehearsal before the concert.
We spent the morning of the photoshoot clearing out the percussion store room and setting up all of my paint drumming gear. During the photoshoot, 4 kids got a chance to enjoy a bit of paint drumming before the performance and the rest got to see how all the magic happens.
I was very proud to see my piece performed, and from memory no less! The whole night was amazing with performances from all of the school instrumental ensembles and choirs, accompanied by food, drink and and a full art exhibition.
To see a school put such effort into its performing arts program is refreshing and very encouraging. It was also very encouraging to see such a big turn out for a high school event. It seems that Kenmore State High School has built a great music program and arts culture surrounding it.
I’m very happy to have been a part of it all and filmed their performance to show how great they really did!
Enjoy,
Tsoof
