Up the Body and Down the Page – New Body Percussion Piece Snippet

Hands in light from Up the Body and Down the Page

Check it out! My coming body percussion project 'Up the Body and Down the Page' is almost finished and here's a snippet of the final video!

Once again, it's been fantastic working with great artists and people who are generally great at what they do. A  massive thank you to Jonathan Brazil, who sat with me so far for about 7 hours to edit the video not to mention filming the entire production over the past 3 weeks.  It got to the point that our minds melted so we decided to take a break and

Up the Body and Down the Page – New Body Percussion Piece

Up the Body and Down the Page rehearsal

Check it out! My coming body percussion project 'Up the Body and Down the Page' is almost finished and here's a snippet to show you how it's coming along.

The final video for the piece will involve the four performers standing in the dark and placing their arms and legs into the light as the make sound. This goes with the theme of seeing sounds like my previous production Read More

Nagoya Marimbas by Steve Reich

Tsoof and Callum perform Nagoya Marimbas

One of the pieces I had to prepare for my recital had  to include other players.

I chose to play Nagoya Marimbas by Steve Reich and I had a great time working with Callum Farquharson on it. Callum brought a lot of ideas and suggestions and it was great fun to work with him!

I really enjoyed the piece, especially the way that it's composed and how the music phases in and out of focus. It was a beautiful and challenging piece to work on and I'm glad I had an opportunity to do it.

Thanks

Blade by Benjamin Finley

Tsoof Performing Blade

Man this was a pleasure to work on!!

I'm a big fan of groovy music, especially drumming stuff. Blade by Benjamin Finley was a piece I chose to play for my recital this semester and I enjoyed every second.

The piece revolves around a polyrythm of 3 on 4 (and vice versa) and basically requires the performer to separate both hands making each work independently. It's described as a piece for a broken

Pushing Nancarrow’s Wheelbarrow by John Parker

Tsoof playing marimba

Just finished my third year first semester recital and I can say that this semester has been really tough!

I've had some amazing opportunities preparing some really benchmark pieces:

Blade by Benjamin Finley and Nagoya Marimbas by Steve Reich. Videos going up in the next days...

Among the pieces I prepared was a recent composition by Brisbane composer, drummer and percussionist John Parker.

John's compositions have been a real inspiration for me over the years, especially since most

What a great few months it’s been!

Simming Australia Banner

These past months I've been busy performing and working on new material for the show and performing with Spankinhide.

Spankinhide have had some fantastic gigs lately, performing for the Australian National Swimming Championships and being invited to play for the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in support of the Australian Team.

We also had a great performance for the Glo Full Moon Dance in Uki,

Hangin Out in the studio

Tsoof and Lachlan in the Studio

I went into the studio yesterday with a great friend of mine Lachlan Hawkins and we busted out some mad recordings of HAPI Drum and Congas with some auxilary percussion and vocals added in later.

Locky's been a great fan of the Hang drum and he's been really keen to get the real thing. Unfortunately it turns out that the company that makes the real thing has a waiting list of about ten years and a bill that'd leave a hole in your pocket so he found the next best thing!

Before we went

Spankinhide at Earth Frequency

Earth Freequency Festival Poster

Just came back from a weekend at the Earth Frequency Festival!

I drove down on Friday and Saturday for a couple of performances with Spankinhide and had a great time.

It was an amazing festival with three big stages pumping out electronic music and getting the audience buzzing. Spankinhide performed on the Friday night to a great crowd that danced and sang with us and had a great time. There was excellent food, great camping facilities, an experience of wilderness and a continuous 'doof'

New Paint Drumming Composition: ‘Etna’

First rehearsal for Etna

SoundStuck Percussion rehearsing my new piece 'Etna' in preparation for coming paint drumming performances.

This was our second rehearsal of the piece and we decided to add some choreography have a bit of fun!

Have a listen to those runs!! Didn't take to long to get those surprisingly and I'm really proud of how the piece sounds and looks even at this point in the rehearsal process.

Time to rehearse to perfection and bring a great show piece to the

Paint Drumming Gig Requests!

A few days ago I got a message from a friend of mine Craig Rippon, who helped me out a whole lot with the Volcano Rising Project, and he mentioned that he'd received a few requests for paint drumming through his 'Drumming Aloud' page and that they'd been forwarded on to me!!

So, as of Monday, SoundStruck Percussion has been invited as part of a proposal to perform at a corporate event in Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast. We've also received a request  to perform a new paint drumming routine
