Blade by Benjamin Finley

Tsoof Performing Blade

Man this was a pleasure to work on!!

I'm a big fan of groovy music, especially drumming stuff. Blade by Benjamin Finley was a piece I chose to play for my recital this semester and I enjoyed every second.

The piece revolves around a polyrythm of 3 on 4 (and vice versa) and basically requires the performer to separate both hands making each work independently. It's described as a piece for a broken

Mayfest Performance: Shake A Tail Feather

Guess who's back? Back again? Tsoof is back! Tell a friend WOOAAAHH!

So, the next song in the Mayfest set is a bit of an 'oldie'. Sarah and I picked it to get the audience dancing and liven the mood a bit. It did just that and even got the compere's for the day dancing.

This is a video of Sarah and me singing 'Shake A Tail Feather' originally by The Five Du-Tones, though most famously covered by Ray Charles and The Blues Brothers.

See if you know all the moves ;)

There will be more

Mayfest Performance: Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye

But wait, there's more!

Here is yet another video of my friend Sarah and me performing earlier on in the day during our afternoon set. The crowd was amazing and we had a great time. We chose to sing this song because we thought that everyone would really enjoy it after all the hype of Gotye's success. Turns out we picked correctly!

This is a video of Sarah singing 'Somebody That I Used To Know' by Gotye with me playing guitar and singing as well.

And yep, you guessed it! There will be

Turning Tables at White Ribbon Day

A few months ago (better late than never), I was invited by the organizers of Amnesty International's White Ribbon Day in Brisbane to perform 5 songs related to violence against women. Sarah La Sala joined me and proved to be an amazing singing partner.

This performance was a bit challenging, because the songs had to suit the White Ribbon Day theme of violence against women. In the end, Sarah managed to come up with a few really great songs, and in a few days, we managed to pull together a

Mayfest Performance: Steer by Missy Higgins

And the video's just keep coming!

An update from the last Mayfest video, this is another video of my friend Sarah and me performing earlier on in the day during our afternoon set. We had a great crowd that afternoon and we really had a great time. This song was one of my personal favourites of the day.

This is a video of Sarah singing 'Steer' by Missy Higgins with me playing guitar and singing some backing vocals.

There will be more videos of us singing at Mayfest

Mayfest Performance: Make You Feel My Love

Make You Feel My Love Mayfest Performance - Tsoof Baras and Sarah La Sala

Guess who's back with a new performance video!

Mayfest came around again this year and the organizers of the outdoor stage invited Sarah and I to come and perform a few sets during the day. If you don't already know, Mayfest is MacGregor Primary School's yearly Fete and has been an opportunity for me to perform and get my music out there every year for the past few years.

This year I invited my friend Sarah La Sala to come and sing with me, and we had a great time performing some of the

SoundStruck Percussion and New Composition: Junglemania!

SoundStruck Percussion a Crossbows

After a few months of careful planning, some rehearsals and a few performances, I am proud to present ... (drum roll) ... SoundStruck Percussion. Earlier this year, a few of my percussionist friends from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and I had an idea to form a percussion ensemble. Thanks to our university, our families and some friendly contacts,  we got a few of our first gigs, from which we got some great recordings and some great videos.

Being in this group also gave me a chance

Desk-Cussion

4 students drumming on desk

During my time as a percussionist, it has come to my attention many times, and explained to me, that practically anything can be a percussion instrument. Bands like STOMP! have showed everyone that a newspaper can be an instrument or that a lighter can entertain crowds all over the world.

So, I chose to grab a couple of friends and put together a piece for the audience at Music at Mac, called Desk-Cussion. It
